The initial consultation builds rapport and lays the foundation for meaningful, lasting relationships. Darren will be there to answer any questions you have about this critical time in your and your student’s lives. By getting to know your student, their likes and dislikes, their work habits, and more importantly, how they see themselves at this moment and who they hope to become in the future, Darren will help your student better understand themselves and what they want from their college experience.

Darren will advise you and your student on…​

• High school course selection and how colleges view academic rigor.

• A developmentally appropriate timeline for standardized testing—the ACT and/or the SAT—and whether retaking an exam makes sense.

• When and how to research colleges to assess whether they are a good match.

• When, where, and how to get the most out of a campus visit.

• How to approach an admissions interview or record an introductory video.

• How to ask for letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, and other important adults.

• Crafting a well-balanced list, and why it is critically important to a successful college process.

• Whether Early Decision, Early Decision II, or Early Action is the right plan.

• How to navigate and complete the Common Application.

• What it means to be deferred or waitlisted, and how to respond correctly.

• Making the enrollment decision.

• Ethical standards for utilizing artificial intelligence. 

Should you opt for the Complete Package or the Essay & Supplement Package, Darren will work with your student to guide them through writing their main Common Application essay, as well as any supplements required by the colleges to which they are applying. The E&S package includes editing feedback and support for up to seven drafts of each piece of writing.

Lastly, students must maintain a strong relationship with their school-based guidance counselor or college counselor. They will write the counselor recommendation and communicate with colleges on your student's behalf. Darren does not replace your student’s school-based counselor; your student will be best served when he and they work collaboratively.​
